Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward expressed his disappointment with Team Penske’s technical violation during Fast 12 qualifying for the Indianapolis 500, where Penske’s Josef Newgarden and Will Power faced issues with rear attenuators. Despite attempting to address the problem in the pit lane, both Penske cars were ultimately removed from qualifying and will start in Row 4. O’Ward criticized the leniency of the punishment, suggesting the Penske cars should have been disqualified sooner. He highlighted that while not an engineer, the rules are clear, and those cars should have been in the last chance qualifier instead. O’Ward emphasized the unnecessary actions by Penske, noting their strong team and drivers, questioning the reasoning behind the violation.
